Bettie Jo Scott- Wilson was born on Sunday March 9, 1947, to Eunice Wilkes in Clarksdale Mississippi. She was raised in Indianapolis Indiana attending and graduating from Shortridge high school.
Bettie had a long and diverse career that started when she worked as a seamstress. Before long, she found a passion for computers and data processing. After migrating to California, she managed key punch operators and worked or shall we say tortured, the military through her work at Lockheed Martin. She also was a part of the US Government’s original Star Wars Program at Martin Marietta. After returning to Indianapolis, Bettie began her work in the community where she ran an outreach center dedicated to helping women and families. It was natural when she moved from there into a church secretary role. Bettie dedicated years to helping churches automate their books, obtain their non-profit status, and organize their community services.
Off and on, she used her knowledge and technical skills to teach at various private schools. This provided the benefits of her not only being able to keep a close eye on her daughter but to ensure she had a good education as well. Among her many achievements, Bettie established the Marketing Department as the first Marketing Manager for SRS Safety Services, Inc. It goes to show that she could do anything she put her mind to.
She is proceeded in death by her parents (Eunice and Robert Scott) and survived by her siblings (Richard and Michael Scott) (Jerry, Roy and Sharkey Upchurch), daughter (Jessica Wilson-Guptill), son-in-law (Scott Wilson-Guptill), grandchildren (Te’Sean and Tae’lor Guptill), a host of other family members, many bonus children and family members adopted in her heart.
For those close to her, Bettie will always be known for her huge giving heart and her joyous laugh that filled a room. She worked to help anyone she could and to leave them in a better position than she found them. Her love for family and community was only surpassed by her love for the Lord.
Her love and guidance lives on in each of our hearts, therefore she is always with us.
