Clare Andrew Schmutz was born in St. George Utah and has lived in Las Vegas since 1960.
Clare served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1959, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. In January 1960, he moved to Las Vegas and began to work at the Clark County Health District as a Junior Sanitarian. Forty Three years later in February of 2003, he retired as director of Enviornmental Health. Since retiring, he continued his dedication to the field of enviornmental health by starting his own company, "CAS Consulting." He was a current board member of the Nevada Restaurant Association, a current member of the National Sanitation Foundation Joint Committee for Food Service Equipment, and also a current member of the Underwriters Laboratory Council of Public Health and Environmental consultants. Clare's career contributed to the well being of the community. He was a proud public servant, a great resource and inspiration to all those who worked with him. In his free time, Clare enjoyed visiting friends and family, driving his antique Ford pickup truck, tending to his tomato garden and watching Yankees baseball and UNLV basketball. He loved to make his special tacos and barbecue. He had planned to do a little more fishing. Clare was a great man with a warm heart, friendly personality and a great sense of humor. He is more than loved and will be more than missed.
Clare is survived by his wife Georgia;son, Billy. His is also survived by his brother, Richard Schmutz;sister, Janice Nisson,both of St. George, Utah; and his brother, William Schmutz of Kanab, Utah.
