Doris May Coatney

Doris May Coatney was born and raised on a farm in Auburn, NV with her parents, three sisters and brother.
Doris passed away peacefully in her home on 20 March. Doris was born in Auburn, NE on August 31, 1934.
She met Keith John Coatney at a high school basketball game and married him in 1952. They moved to Las Vegas when Keith was stationed there in the Air Force. Doris and Keith were married for over 59 years until death parted them in March 2011.
Weekends were spent either camping, fishing, or hunting, or hosting barbeques. Living in Las Vegas, home became the vacation destination for many extended family members. Fishing trips were famous and renowned among them and fish fries were frequent. All this while working full time.
Doris had landed her first job at Central Telephone Company as a teenager with perfect attendance for over 30 years. Doris retired at age 60.
She then served as treasurer of her retiree group and coordinated the regular meetings, contacting each person individually by telephone (of course).
Doris was a longtime volunteer and quilter her home church, Christ Lutheran Church.
Her favorite things: family, friends, card games, sewing, cooking, and traveling, and chocolate and all other sweets. Doris was known by her big smile, friendliness, and sense of humor. She was kind and thoughtful to everyone she encountered.
She will be very much missed by all who were blessed to have her in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Keith Coatney.
She is survived by; children James Ryan Coatney and Janice Marie Clark, Grandchildren Tarah Marie McCroskey and Julie Catherine Clark, and Great Granddaughter Avery Marie McCroskey, as well as siblings Ray Caspers. Betty Hahn, Carole Bartels, and Barbara Grace.
Doris was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Bunkers Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 N Las Vegas Blvd, Viewing at 12:00 PM Las Vegas, NV 89101
