Elaine Theurer Glenn

December 27, 1930 — October 16, 2024

Elaine Theurer Glenn, our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93.  Her passing marks a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, service and dedication to her family and to her Savior.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her daughter, DeLayne.  She is survived by her brother J. Clair Theurer (Carma), and her children Pamela Sue Waite (Herb), Lucinda Leigh Pittsenbarger (Timothy), and Douglas Lynn Glenn (Janette), as well as 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

Born on December 27, 1930 in Providence Utah to John Jessop Theurer and Rhoda Durfey Theurer.  Her father was a farmer and cattleman and she spent her young years and youth working with him on the farm hoeing, topping and hauling beets to the factory, tromping hay, driving a tractor, weeding and riding a horse bringing the cows to and from the pasture.  Her best friend was her brother and they spent many of their days together working with their dad on the farm.  Her claim to fame in her little home town was being named the runner up for the Strawberry Queen Festival.  She was a member of the 4H club and won many awards at the County Fair in Salt Lake City.  Her calf “Butch” took the grand prize and she was very proud of this. Elaine was elected the Secretary of her Senior Class in High School, was a member of the Pep Club and played 1st Chair in the Cornet section of the school band.  She and Dale starred in their high school’s Senior Hits Musical singing and dancing together.

After High School Elaine attended Utah State University.  Elaine pledged and was accepted as a Kappa Delta and was a member of the Elite Marching Corps band at the University.  Elaine’s major was journalism and the number one item on her “bucket list” was to write a book.  She attained this goal by leaving her family wonderful journals outlining her amazing journeys and accomplishments. All the characters and events in those books are about real people and events that took place in Elaine’s life!

Elaine and Dale were married on July 28, 1950 in the Logan Temple.  The start to their marriage was a little difficult as shortly after being married Dale enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Tokyo, Japan where he spent the first 18 months of their marriage serving in the Korean War.  Elaine did not like living alone so she moved back home with her parents and returned to Utah State University to fill her time.  Upon Dale’s return, they received orders to report to Nellis Air Force Base and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955.  Las Vegas became their home for the remainder of their lives.  They purchased their first, and what turned out to be their only home on Kay Place, in February, 1957.  This is where they raised their 4 children and made so many wonderful friends and memories.

Elaine loved to travel and had wonderful experiences everywhere she went.  Her travels took her to England, Spain, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, China, Egypt, Israel, Hong Kong, Canada, Nova Scotia, Alaska, Mexico and all over the United States (36 states that are documented).

Elaine loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was proud to be a Latter-day Saint.  She devoted her life to serving her family and serving the Lord. She served in many callings in the Church over her lifetime but especially loved serving with the Youth. On March 5, 1994, she was called to serve for 18 months as a proselyting missionary in the London South Mission.  Her experiences as a missionary were so sacred to her and gave her so much joy that she once again submitted papers to serve a second mission and in 2006 was called to serve in the Macon Georgia mission.

Elaine’s true love was attending and serving in the Temple. Over her lifetime she was able to visit and attend Temples all over the world and in her journals she documents the blessings of being able to visit and serve in 35 of the many temples around the world.  Elaine and Dale were called to serve in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple when it first opened in 1989 and she served in that Temple diligently most of her life.  She was so upset and sad when she was released at the age of 90!   She attended the Temple every chance she could and in her last months of life that is all she wanted to do – make sure her recommend was current and spend time in the Temple where she could feel the love of her Savior and her beloved husband that she missed so dearly.

Elaine was an exceptional Mother and Grandmother.  She always made sure that her home was a loving environment and wanted her family around her every chance she could get.  She stayed closely bonded with her loved ones all throughout her life and only wanted her family around her in her final days.  Her light shined bright and she uplifted all those that knew her. Elaine is remembered by those who knew her as warm, loving, charitable, hardworking, generous, forgiving, unselfish, compassionate, peacemaker and most of all a woman with unwavering faith.  Her family is proud and grateful for the legacy she has left behind and they will miss her dearly.
