Frances V Buitkus Kenny

Born: September 2, 1938

Died: November 30, 2020

Frances Kenny passed away on November 30, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by members of her loving family and Fr. William “Bill” Kenny, who was also a long-time family friend.

Frances was born in Chicago, Illinois, the first daughter of John and Frances Buitkus. Both parents’ families came to America from Lithuania. She grew up on the south side of Chicago and later married her first love, Matthew Kenny.  As a newly married couple they moved several times while Matthew served 21 years in the Air Force. Frances and Matthew settled in Las Vegas in 1968, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Frances was a spiritual and spirited woman that always had a twinkle in her eye and a suggestive grin on her face that seemed to say, “I know something you don’t know”.  She always carried herself with dignity and found fulfillment in her belief in God and the love of her family. She was the devoted mother of six children, a homemaker, an avid reader and worked for many years for the Blind Center of Nevada.

Frances had numerous friends that were very dear to her. Whenever she saw a friend, or even a stranger in need, she was always available to lend a hand. She had a kindness and giving nature about her that was rooted in her faith in humanity. She had a bit of toughness from growing up in Chicago and her “protective warrior” arose whenever she felt someone was being wronged, especially if it involved one of her children. You always knew how she felt, as she was not afraid to tell you, sometimes with language better left in the streets of her childhood.

Frances is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 38 years, Matthew Kenny, and survived by her six children, Karen Geiger, Kathy Adams and husband Paul, Keith Kenny and wife Karalyn, Kenneth Kenny and wife Maureen, Kitty Pollard and husband Maxwell, Kyle Kenny and wife Elaine, as well as her younger sister Sue Hejny and her husband George and longtime companion Marty Murtagh. She also has 10 grandchildren Robert, Sarah, Matthew, Krysta, John, Kerigan, Kalley, Keegan, Preston and Carter, and 15 great grandchildren.

Remembrance services and a celebration of her life will be held at Bunker Brothers Mortuary. Due to Covid capacity restrictions space is limited for services. Please contact a family member for information.
