Garland Dowd

Garland McHenry Dowd was born September 16, 1941, to the union of Clarence Dowd and Ida Lee Daniel in Fordyce, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, and served one term in the United States Army.
After honorably leaving the Army, he moved to Las Vegas and worked for Reynolds Electrical & Engineering. Garland met and married Diane Harris, and together they have a son, Christopher. August 15, 1977, he met and married Majorine Thomas and was father to her two daughters, Bettina and Rochelle. Garland and Majorine were happily married for 43 years. They relocated to Washington State, where he worked for CSC as a programmer and analyst. He was later hired as a Computer Analyst for Boeing, where he worked until he retired in 2003.
Garland was an active member of his community. He served as City Council in West Richland, Washington, in 1987. He was also an active member of the Family Affair Social Club in Richland, an active participant in the Fordyce Club, and an active member of the AM&N College Alumni Association.
On March 16, 2020, God called Garland McHenry Dowd home to rejoice with his parents Clarence and Ida, sister Mary, brother WZ Bunn, son in-law Todd, grandson, and many family and friends to welcome him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Majorine Dowd; brother, Kenneth Dowd; son Christopher Gordon Dowd (Kristin Dowd); two daughters, Bettina Rhodes and Rochelle Sanchez (Jamal Ali); a niece, Stephanie, and six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of loving family and longtime friends.
