Gary Wayne Poe, Sr

February 24, 1936 — August 30, 2024

Born February 24, 1936 in Moberly Missouri and delivered from home, into the hands of Our Lord, on August 30, 2024. He spent the last 58 years in Las Vegas, and made many friends. In 1958 he enlisted in the Army Corp of Engineers at Ft Campbell, KY and was  awarded The Good Conduct Medal for service to country.  He had several careers and businesses:  As a Union Heavy Equipment Operator, Union Wheel Maker, Retail and Car Sales, 2 Tropical Bird Stores and 4 Pizza Restaurants while serving his Community as Constable.  A Union Limousine Driver, a Gourmet Tour Guide, and retired from a Landscaping Business of 18 years.   He was a fascinating person with many talents and a great sense of humor. He never heard a joke he didn’t remember and always made sure you left laughing. He played with Ultra-light planes, Scuba gear, Motorcycles and Cars. Owned Horses and rode with the Rough Riders on Endurance Runs and Parades. Plus he was an AVID Elvis aficionado, all the while, raising 5 boys and taking many pictures of his Family Life. He reminisced many times of growing up within the Mississippi River, corridor along with uncles, aunts and many cousins. His Father Walter Fern Poe who was ½ Native American of the Cherokee Nation, passed in Chicago, His Mother Mildred Cleo Bosse passed in Missouri. Gary was preceded in death by his sons Wayne (Monica) and William. He is survived by his wife Edna, sons Terry, Lance (Tracie), and Gary Jr., siblings Jaqueline Sue Poe-Perry of Las Vegas and Danny Lee “Bean” Chapman of St. Peters, Missouri.

Services will be Friday September 20th at Bunker’s Mortuary located at 925 N. Las Vegas Blvd.  Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, with services at 12:00 PM and burial at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd.  All who knew Gary are invited to attend.
