George James Panek

George J Panek, Jr, 67, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on January 18, 2020 at his home.

George was born on June 2, 1952, in Berwyn, Illinois to George & Lydia (Adamova) Panek.

George attended Chatsworth High School in Northridge, Ca. He continued his education at UCLA in Los Angeles. He graduated in 1974 with a degree in accounting. George received his CPA and started his career with Coopers & Lybrand in Phoenix, Az. He audited casinos in Las Vegas, NV until he was offered a position in 1982 at the Golden Nugget. George worked his way up the corporation and was intimately involved with establishing MGM Resorts and City Center.

George's interests included family, cars & racing; Las Vegas Knights Hockey.

He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and was liked by all. He truly will be missed.

George was a devoted father, grandfather, husband and brother.

George is survived by his children, Laura (Panek) Anderson, Richard Panek, Leeann Schwartz, and ex-wife, Lizann (Panek) Murphy;
Sisters and brother; Audrey (Panek) Nelson & Rich Nelson, La Salle, IL; Eve (Panek) Mullins & Steve Mullins, Monroe, GA; Geoff Panek & Kate (Stewart) Panek, Ca. Grandchildren, Angelina Dean and Cole Panek, Las Vegas, NV.

George was preceded in death by his parents George & Lydia Panek, Phoenix, Az; second wife, Mindy (Schwartz) Panek, Las Vegas, NV

George gracefully & bravely battled rheumatoid arthritis since childhood. He never let his condition control his life or career. In lieu of flowers, donations may sent to Audrey Nelson, 30 Royal Wood Dr, La Salle, IL 61301. All donations will be go to Mayo Clinic for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis research.
