George Louis Stillings,Sr. a Las Vegas resident since 1961 was a gambling pioneer. He was born in North Dakota and was married to R. Jean Stillings, until she passed away in January of 2001. George stayed busy welcoming four great-grandchildren into the world since that time. He was an avid horseman, retired hotel executive and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. George was a pioneer in Las Vegas hotel history, and was the CFO at the Desert Inn when it was sold to Howard Hughes in the 60's, changing Las Vegas history forever. George was a former executive and founding stockholder of Boyd Gaming here in Las Vegas. He finished his distinguished hotel career as the exectutive vice president of the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, CA. He retired in Las Vegas in 1990. Geroge was active and alert until his last days and was Thrilled when BYD hit 41 last week. Go BYD. George was a CFO until his last breath. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roverta Jean. George is survived by his son, George L. Jr.(Cinda) Stillings of Henderson;daughters Nancy(Rick) Hart of Sacramento, CA and Ruther Lambert of Makoti, N.D.;brother Roy Stillings of Chula Vista, CA; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 28th, 2004 at Bunkers Mortuary from 5-7 p.m.
Burial will be in Ocanside, CA.
