Harold, Jack "Harry" Harstein was born the Bronx, N.Y. Harry was a retired job developer and is survived by his children and grandchildren, all residing in California.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Miriam (Mim) who left us in March of this year.
Harry was a standout baseball player, having been offered a professional pitching contract at the age of 16. Harry served his country during World War II as a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war, he met and married Mim in 1948. They moved to Southern California in 1951 and raised their family in Hawthorne and Fountain Valley, Harry and Mim moved to Las Vegas in 1991, where he has been very active in the community.
During the last 10 years of Mim's life, Harry was her dedicated caregiver as she struggled with MS. He stood by her side, day-in and day-out;no more loyal a husband or devoted father could you find.
Throught his life, Harry had been dedicated to service. He helped start a synagogue in south Los Angeles and helped found a chapter of American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI). He'd also been active over the years with B'Nai B'rith, City of Hope, Portals and many other organizations service the community in which Harry lived and worked. He even gave blood over 50 times-that he could remember.
Most recently, he was very active with the Jewish War Veterans Post #64, a group near and dear to his heart. Over the years he held many positions with the Post, including serving as commander three times.
