Helen I. Young

May 18, 1923 — April 28, 2005

Helen Young was born in Pittsburg, PA.  She was a resident of Las Vegas since 1978,  She worked for the Aluminum Company of American in Pittsburgh after graduating from high school.  She joined the Woman's Army Corp at the age of 20. After her basic training, she was assigned to duty in London, England.  After the Normandy Invasion of June, 1944, she was re-assigned to Paris, France, after it was liberated by the American Troops.   She met and married Gabriel Young of the U.S. Army on November 5, 2945 in Paris France.  Upon returning to the U.S. she became an office manager for the W.T. Grant Company for 15 years. She and her family resided in Bradley Beach, N.J.until they retired.  She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.  Her older sister, Catherine also served in the Woman's Army Corp. stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations. While Helen served in the European Theater of Operations, she became a non-commissioned officer. She is survived by her husband, Gabriel; sons, Bruce of New Jersey and Gary of Tennessee; and daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Thomas Barbour of Fairfax, VA. Also by five grandsons, Aleks, Adam and Andrew Barbour and Brent and Clayton Young of New Jersey. Also by her sister, Jean Crammer and four children, Louie, Julie,Cathy and Paul, who live in Manasquan,N.J.;sister-in-law, Ruth Ivancik;niece,Vickie and nephew, Paul, who reside in Pittsburgh;and brother-in-law, Charles Shelby and family, Cathy, Buddy and Carol who live in San Antonio.  She is also survived by many other family members throughout the states. She leaves many endeared friends, from the East and West coasts.  Cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Boulder City, Nevada.

She and Gabriel would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 5,2005.
