Howard was born in Aurora, Utah.He died in Casa Grande, Arizona. A Southern Nevada resident for 59 years, he was a retired UNR professor and an Army veteran. He was the son of John A. and Frances Eva Christensen, being their sixth child of 10. Howard received his master's degree from Colorado State and his doctorate from Ohio State. He taught high school in Franklin, Idaho, Alamo and Bunkerville. he coached the Virgin Valley basketball team to win the State B Championship in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1955, he moved to Reno and was a college professor in agriculture for the University of Nevada. He retired from the University of Nevada in 1972 and was awarded Professor Emeritus. He then taught in Iran and Nigeria. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in various organizations of the church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ilen Black Christensen; his parents, four brothers;four sisters; and his great-grandson, Jeremy Shumway.
He is survived by two sons, Dix Christensen of Queen's Creek, Arizona and Jan Parley Christensen of Casa Grande, Arizona; two daughters, Manya Carney of Stevenson Ranch, CA., and Marijo Shumway of Las Vegas;one sister, Ina Littlefield of Midvale, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
