John M Oliver

June 13, 1943 — March 27, 2024

John Marvin Oliver, (80), passed from this life at home on March 27, 2024. He was a lifetime resident of Las Vegas born at the old Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital to Marvin and Eloise Oliver on June 13, 1943.  He graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1961 and attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas (NSU). He spent 35 years working for the local telephone company. He engineered the communication systems for many of the biggest hotels in Las Vegas working his up through the ranks to become an executive. After an early retirement, he was recruited to run a cable TV and telephone company in Alabama and later returned to Vegas to run an underground cable company.

He loved to fish, read, garden and to enjoy his family and many pets. He married his wife, Dianne (nee Abercrombie) in 1969. They were together for 60 years and married for 55 years. They traveled the world from the top of Manchu Picchu to the Great Wall of China to the pyramids of Egypt. They had three children.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Dianne, a son Brian, 2 daughters Dr. Jill (Michael) Oliver Worley and Kimberly (John) Oliver Bogda, three grandchildren, Daxton Oliver, Jack Bogda and Abigail Bogda, his brother Larry (Dee) Oliver, sister Connie Leigh, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sierra Gold, 6515 S. Jones Blvd  on April, 6, 2024 from 2-6 pm
