Johnny B Griffin

October 21, 1944 — October 26, 2024

Johnny B. Griffin, 80, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 21, 1944, in Shamrock, West Virginia, to Jesse and Virginia Griffin, Johnny spent his early years running the hills and playing baseball with his best friends, his beloved brothers.

In 1961, the family moved to Las Vegas, where Johnny attended Rancho High School and graduated in 1963. Las Vegas is also where Johnny met the love of his life, Vicki Jones, while cruising Fremont Street in his '40 Ford coupe.

He enlisted in the Army in 1965, proudly serving in South Korea until 1967. Upon returning he and Vicki were married on December 30, 1968, beginning a beautiful life together. He began working for Central Telephone, starting as a lineman, and finishing his 39-year career as a communications engineer.

Johnny was the epitome of a family man, always putting his family first. He adored his wife, two sons, and close-knit brothers, and enjoyed spending time with them. Known for his love of softball, he was celebrated as one of the best second basemen in the city. Golf was his passion, a gift he passed on to his son Lance and many other young people in the golfing community. On the golf course, Johnny was always accompanied by his son and his son's friends, offering encouragement and laughter.

He was a man of integrity, always doing the next right thing. Johnny was deeply loved as a devoted husband, father, grandpa and brother, and will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, and unwavering support for family and friends.

Johnny is survived by his son Lance Griffin, daughter-in-law Traci Traasdahl, granddaughters Aubrey and Mackenzie Griffin, and brothers Thomas, Loren, and Jerry Griffin. He also leaves behind a great friend/son, Jeff Proffitt.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Virginia Griffin; his brothers, Jesse, Jim, and Edmond Griffin; his wife, Vicki Jones Griffin; his son, Troy Griffin; and his daughter, Lois Griffin.

Johnny will be missed by all who knew him and cherished for his unwavering kindness and generous heart.

A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on November 15th, starting at 1:00 pm, at Bunker’s Funeral Home, Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Las Vegas, NV 89101. A reception will immediately follow the celebration. A private interment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
