Karen “Sue” Guffy, 74, of Las Vegas, passed away on September 6, 2024. She was a 43 year resident of Las Vegas. Sue was born to George H. and Mary Grace (Brown) Guffy in Leaksville, North Carolina, and grew up in Davison, Michigan. She graduated from Davison High School in 1968 and earned a degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1973.
In the early 1970s, Sue began her professional career as a baby photographer with Jones and Presnell Studios, traveling across the country and eventually becoming Regional Manager until the company’s closure. She relocated with her family and made Las Vegas her permanent home in 1981.
She continued her career at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Human Resources, helping the company hire its employees for the resort’s opening in 1990. She then dedicated 29.5 years as an Employment and Training Specialist with the State of Nevada, retiring in 2019. Her previous sales experience and passion for engaging with people brought her to the Williams-Sonoma Call Center, where she also worked part-time for many years as a customer service representative.
Sue was known for her vibrant spirit, kindness, and generous heart. She had an infectious wit and made friends wherever she went. Her adventurous life was filled with stories she loved to share. Sue was a passionate fan of the Vegas Golden Knights. She also enjoyed the arts, often attending performances at the Smith Center to watch ballet and Broadway shows. She was an incredible daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her niece, Staci (Travis) Anderson of Las Vegas, great-nephew Taylor Busch of Swartz Creek, MI, along with numerous extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, George H. and Mary Grace Guffy; her sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Guffy) and Keith Busch; and nephew, Larry Busch.
