Leon Jordan

A journey may be defined as the act of traveling from one place to another, with many stops and turns along the way. The road will not always be smooth, but it will ultimately lead us to our destination. That being said, Leon's life has been nothing less than a journey, taking him from his earthly abode to his eternal home in heaven. It all began at birth.

On October 7, 1939, in Delhi Louisiana, Leon Jordan Sr. and Lucy Brown Jordan proudly welcomed their fourth child into the family. He was named Leon Jordan Jr, after his father and affectionately known as "Bubba". He was the fourth of eight children. Six children preceded him in death: Jonathan, Vidalia, Clemon, Rachel, Leroy, and Genovia.

Early in life, Leon accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He also attended Waverly High School. However, his tenure at Waverly was short lived upon hearing that he could receive more money for his labor elsewhere. He then made the decision to leave his father, mother, and siblings to make a life on his own. Therefore, he moved to Las Vegas, where he was employed at Child Haven for several years.

Later, Leon returned to Louisiana where he met and married Katie Cockerham, his wife of fifty-two years. He fathered five sons: Gregory, Mervyn (preceded him in death), Leon III, Eric, and Chad.

In 1985, Leon moved back to Las Vegas, taking his family with him where he remained until death. In the meantime, he reunited with the Victory Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon under the leadership of Pastor Robert E. Fowler for many years. He was faithful to that ministry and served it well until declining health restricted him.

Leon's journey ended on April 5, 2020, when the Lord called him home. He transitioned peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Katie Jordan, four sons, Leon III, Eric (Yolanda), Chad (Jade), and Gregory; one brother Lavern (Fredessa), thirteen grandchildren, four nieces, two nephews, and many relatives and friends.
