Lois Hardin

Lois Ilene Hardin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born on August 6, 1930 in Winfield, Kansas to Floyd Roy and Flora Mae Cole. She married the love of her life Tass Clay Hardin on August 31, 1948 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Married for 71 years, together they had six children, 13 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. Lois grew up in Kansas with her older sister Helen, older brother Galen, and younger sister's, Orma and Zerita. Lois loved growing up on her family farm in Morehead, Kansas and learned from a very young age how to work hard. Lois graduated from Morehead high school at the age of 15 years old and started attending Southwestern College. It was there that Lois joined the ping-pong team and found one of her many knacks. Lois played serious ping-pong and became the Kansas state champion in 1948. After receiving enough schooling she began teaching in 1949 after her and Tass were married. Lois taught in a school house with all eight grades which kept her on her toes and got her ready to have their first child Michael. After having her first child she decided to work from home and babysit a few extra children to help make ends meet. It was in 1950 she gave birth to two twin daughters prematurely, who both passed away shortly after birth. Then in 1951 another daughter, Ila Fay Hardin was delivered full term, as a stillborn. A lot of heartache was endured in those few years but Lois remained strong. In 1953, she gave birth to her daughter Rhonda and then in 1957 to another daughter, Tasey. Later Lois decided to seek employment and worked for an insurance company for three or four years and then at an eggplant, with her sister Helen and Aunt Edie. She loved being able to spend extra time with them whenever she could. It was a 1963 when Lois and Tass decided to move to California. So they packed up their belongings and their three children. That only lasted for three months when Tass and Lois decided they were going to try their luck in Las Vegas. Lois started work at the Health District and finished her degree at UNLV. After finishing she was able to go to work for CCSD as a teacher. She worked there until her and Tass's Trenching company took off and needed Lois's help with the bookkeeping around 1971. Lois was able to manage their company until her retirement. Even after retirement she continued to help family with their companies and did so willingly. She was such a great example of selflessness. She enjoyed spending more time traveling with and to see family. She loved spending time with her sisters and doing quick girl trips with them including shopping at the outlets in Barstow. They also would take cruises with their spouses and loved her time with them. Her and Tass loved spending time at their family cabin, and in Lake Powell, as long as they were together. Lois and Tass's home was a gathering place for family and friends. They hosted many family get together's throughout the year which included Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, just to name a few. We all knew when we would get there we would be greeted with a hug and get to eat Lois's home cooked meals and yummy desserts. She had a talent for cooking! Lois is a devout member of the First Christian Church where she generously gave of her time and much more. Lois was known for her genuine love of others, she was always serving throughout her life, whether it was sewing clothes for others, cooking delicious meals or treats, cleaning or writing a card or note to someone. Lois never forgot a holiday, birthday, anniversary, or special date for anyone. She was always busy and even when she was sitting still, she was still working. Writing those cards, clipping coupons, or reading the newspaper. She ran circles around most young people with her energy and zest for life. Lois loved playing tricks and pranks on others. Whether it was a dribble glass for guests, fake cockroaches, or some other little prank the stories are endless and unforgettable. She loved just spending time with her family especially playing games, cards and of course ping-pong. She is super competitive and everyone better have brought their A game to beat her because you definitely had to earn it. She has a heart of gold, a laugh that is contagious and one of a kind, and will be missed!
Lois is survived by her husband Tass Clay Hardin, her younger sisters, Orma (Ken) Jones, Zerita Woody, and her children Michael (Pamela) Hardin, Rhonda Ivie, Tasey (Paitaka) Miyahira And her 13 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her two twin daughters, daughter Ila Fay Hardin (stillborn), her parents Floyd & Flora Cole, her sister Helen Starlin, and her brother Galen Cole.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10 AM at Bunker Eden Vale Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Viewing to be held prior to the service at 9 AM.
