Macedonio "Curly" Iniquez, age 94, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2024 in his beloved home of 51 years in Las Vegas, NV. Curly was surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters. Born on May 16, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Curly led a life marked by his charismatic spirit, love for his family, community involvement and faith in God. Curly's early career was highlighted by his ownership of the Sunset Lounge in Chicago, a popular gathering spot where he met his wife Irene of 61 years. Curly and Irene married July 4th, 1963 in Las Vegas, NV at the Little Church of the West. Curly always joked that he picked that date so that he would not forget their anniversary and said that was the day he lost his “independence.” After several months living in Las Vegas they missed their family and moved back to Illinois where they remained for 10 years. Curly began a career in the vending business with Automatic Retailers of America in Chicago. Curly and his family moved in 1967 to Hanover Park, Illinois where he was deeply involved in that community, serving as one of the first Civil Service Commissioners. In 1973, Curly relocated his family to Las Vegas where they bought their forever home. He continued his career in the vending business with Vega Vending and acquired the nickname of "The Candy Man." Curly retired from the vending company and opened up his own auto mechanic business for several years. In his late 60’s, Curly sold his business and worked part time in the Clark County Elections Department. Curly's commitment to service continued as a director of the Las Vegas Chicagoans Club. Curly and Irene were even crowned the winners of the LVCC’s Gong Show. Curly was very proud of his home and loved hosting events and many parties in his beautiful backyard.
A devout member of the Catholic faith, Curly was a regular parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Curly was an avid member of the Nevada Knights of Columbus where he proudly served for more than 25 years and was elected into many offices. One of Curly’s proudest accomplishments was being elected as the Nevada State Deputy in May 1998. Continuing his dedication to the Knights, in May 1999, Curly was appointed as Chairman for the Cause for Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney, the beloved founder of the Knights of Columbus. In February 2020, Curly was recognized and
honored by the Las Vegas Diocese for his 15 years of dedicated service as Chairman of the annual fundraising event for Mentally Challenged and Disabled Children and Young Adults known as the “Happy Times” program. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and commitments. Curly was known for his love of music and dancing. He was a terrific dancer and loved taking Irene out on the dance floor. Curly deeply loved his family and often referred to his three daughters as “Curly’s Angels.” Curly enjoyed playing the guitar and would often play for his family wearing his sombrero. His passion for the Chicago Bears was unmatched, and he rarely missed watching a game, showcasing his enduring loyalty to “Da Bears.” He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Irene; children Anthony (Patty), Linda (Mike), Janice (Darrell), and Adele (Eric); and grandchildren Nancy, Michael (Jennifer), Shelly (Mike), Zachary (Ashley), Jessica, John, Gannon, Jaedyn and Taya. He has several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who he loved immensely. Curly is also survived by his brothers Raymond, Tony, and Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Margarita, and siblings Stella, Charles, Jesse, and Joseph. Services to honor Curly's life and legacy will be held at Our Lady of Las Vegas on September 9th, with a viewing at 11:00 AM followed immediately by church services at 11:30 AM.
