Mary Gibson Atchley, 89 a homemaker of Las Vegas, passed away on Saturday, January 13,2007.
She grew up in the small town of St. Thomas as the fourth of seven children of Robert O. and Edith Gibson. She attended St. Thomas grammar school and Moapa High School. When Boulder(Hoover) Dam was built, her family moved out of the flood zone to Las Vegas, where she graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1935. She also attended the LDS Business School in Salt Lake City, returning to Las Vegas to work in her father's dairy. She later worked several years as an agent at Harrington Insurance. In 1943, she married Louis D. Atchley with whom she had five children. Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lent her lovely alto voice to many choirs and singing groups. her quiet presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Louis D. Atchley; sisters, Catherine GibsonLater and Inez Gibson Waymire; and brothers, Floyd Gibson, Carl Gibson and Owen Gibson.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Atchley, Susan Atchley Morales, and Joy Atchley Reinhert; her sons, Kenneth Louis Atchley and William Earl Atchley; and her sister, Josephine Gibson Downey.
