Mary was born in Holland. Along with her family she moved to Montana in 1914. She graduated from Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, Montana and practiced there until she moved to Las Vegas in 1942. She worked at the County Hospital(Now UMC) rising to supervisor of nursing. In 1945, she married Al Kennedy, Chief of Police and acting city manager. Al died in 1961. Mary was the visiting nurse for the Culinary and Bartenders union for 20 years. In 1973, Mary was married to Jim Rymer until his death in 1999. After 55 years of nursing, Mary retired in 1986. Mary was co-founder of the Memorial First Womens Auxiliary, co-founder of Sunrise Womens Auxiliary,co-founder of the First Practicing Nurses School of Nevada and first ward clerk in the State of Nevada. Mary was also president of the State Nursing Association. Along with other organizations, Mary was a member of Altrusa Club, Mesquite Club and the American Legion. Mary is survived by her two step-children, Susan Anderson and Mark Rymer;stepgrandsons, Z.Donald Anderson and Aaron Maher;brother,Joe(Bud)Houben;and sisters, Ceil Habets and Josephine Wilson.
