Melvin D Covert

Melvin Covert, a devoted husband, father, and veteran of the US Army, passed away on December 6, 2023, at the age of 78. Melvin's life was filled with love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Born on June 26, 1945, Melvin was the beloved son of Fred and Edna Covert, and the eldest of nine children (Howard, Ralph, Dolores, Lucille, Marie, Albert, Marty & Raymond) along with multiple nieces and nephews. From a young age, Melvin showed a deep love for his country, which led him to join the US Army. His time in the military instilled in him values of discipline, integrity, and loyalty, which he carried with him throughout his life.
Melvin's greatest joy in life was his beloved wife, Ernestine Covert, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Both Melvin and Ernie cherished their time together as members of a Great Dane kennel club, where they found joy in the company of fellow Great Dane enthusiasts and shared their love for these elegant creatures. Sadly, Ernestine preceded Melvin in death, but their children take solace in knowing that they are now reunited in heaven.
Melvin leaves behind a legacy of love and a large, loving family. He is survived by his five children: Erin Dawson (married to John Dawson), Nikk Covert (married to Anita Covert), Ernestine "Candi" Craner (married to Sam Craner), Theresa Peterson, and Joshua Covert. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
In addition to his military service, Melvin was a talented auto body worker. In his younger days, he worked for his father's business, Covert Auto Body, showcasing his skill and passion for his craft. He dedicated most of his professional life to the auto repair industry and retired from Johnny D's Auto in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Melvin had a passion for woodworking and was gifted in his craft. He took great pride in creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished by his loved ones for generations to come. Melvin was also an avid Charger Football fan, cheering on his favorite team with unwavering enthusiasm.
In his final years, Melvin indulged his passion for travel, embarking on numerous adventures with his family and accompanied by his dear friend and travel buddy, Linda Miller-Narumit.
Above all, Melvin was a devoted husband and family man. He was always there to support his children in all their endeavors, providing love, guidance, and encouragement. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by his family and all who knew him.
