Olive Martha Anderson Gammell

January 1, 1918 — May 13, 2024

Midvale, Utah

For our friends and family. Our mother Olive Martha Anderson Gammell simply went to sleep and gave up her mortal body to go and be with dad on Monday, May, 13, 2024.

Mom was born Jan 1, 1918 and survived two world-wide pandemics and two world wars. She lived 106 years and 133 days. Mom says the greatest invention during her life was indoor plumbing.

Olive Martha Anderson Gammell was born Jan 1, 1918, in Ogden, Utah, to Peter John and Elizabeth Anne Hansen Anderson. She was the 9th of 12 children. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1941 to work for and help her brother Glen O. She had lived there previously one summer during high school helping Glen. While working for Glen at the Machinist Union office she met her future husband Allen H. Gammell. They wed Feb 7, 1943, later solemnized in the St. George temple. Mom was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings. She served in the Las Vegas Temple for several years. Her loving and kind nature affected so many people it is hard to count.

In Nov 2016 she finally consented to move to Midvale, Utah, to live with her son Bary and his wife Jan, where she enjoyed weekly visits with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lived in the area.

Mom loved her strawberry ice cream. On Mother’s Day evening her grandson Bill Gammell and wife Denise brought her a big scoop of strawberry ice cream. Even though she had stopped eating, she ate all of the ice cream. Happy and contented she was now ready for her journey. She closed her eyes to sleep and peacefully left this mortal realm Monday morning at 6:45 am.

Our appreciations goes out to the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff who gave such loving care to mom for the past three years at Rocky Mountain Care – Riverton, and for the doctors, nurses , aides and staff for the four periods of hospice care by Rocky Mountain Hospice.

Mom is survived by her sons Bary (Jan) Gammell Midvale, Utah, and Ricky (Lezlie) Gammell     St. Charles, MO; her grandchildren: Keri (Ryan) Dunn Las Vegas, NV; Kathy (Jason) Jones, Riverton, UT; Bill (Denise) Gammell Saratoga Springs, UT; Jenn (Jason) Spencer Midvale, UT; and Bob (Laura) Gammell North Hollywood, CA; Paige (Austin) Taylor St. Charles, MO; Kassady (Aaron) Bowers Caddo Mills, TX; Lynzie Anne Miller San Diego, CA; Parker (Rachel) Boden Aliso Viejo, CA ; Tyler Boden San Clemente, CA; and 25 great-grandchildren.
