Paula Gene Mcfarland

With much sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Paula Gene “ Hurt” McFarland on Thursday October 15, 2020 from cancer. She died peacefully at her home in Hurricane, UT with family by her side. She had recently celebrated her 77th birthday.

She was born October 11, 1943 in Henderson, NV to parents Lena Rae Baker and Eugene P. “Gene” DeLeon. Lena Rae and Gene divorced and Lena married William A. “Art” Hurt. At that time Paula was adopted by Art Hurt.

She grew up in Boulder City, NV and graduated from Boulder City High School. Not long after graduation she moved to Las Vegas where she worked as a deputy sheriff for a while, then moved to the graphics art department in City Hall. It was there that she met her soul mate, our father, Otto K. McFarland who proceeded her in death.

Paula worked many jobs throughout her life, but her longest tenured employment was in banking and she retired in 2018 at the young age of 75.

Paula loved to travel, ride horses, listen to music of many genres, play the piano and was a sports car lover. She was also an avid cat lover and always had her furry friends around her right up to the end. As a registered voter she was very active in politics. She loved a good debate and sometimes had a fiery side that would come out from time to time. Paula also loved tracing her family tree through genealogy.

She will be missed greatly by her loving sister Mary Jane “Janie” Hurt Parry and her husband Doug. Her son James Arthur McFarland and wife Jackie. Her daughter LuRenae McFarland Davis and husband Jim R. Davis and all their families.

She is also survived by 2 nephews, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, half -sisters Mary Cooley, Ann Mattern and a half-brother Charles DeLeon and their families.

Paula will be laid to rest with our father at Memory Gardens on 7251 W.  Lone Mountain Rd in Las Vegas, NV on November 6th at 12:00 p.m.
