Robert Hunter

March 27, 1927 — November 18, 2019

Robert "Bob" Hunter, 92, Las Vegas

Robert Hunter transitioned from this life to eternal life early Monday morning, November 18, 2019.

Robert was born on March 27, 1927 in Faunsdale, AL, to the late Willie and Mary Allen. In November 1947, he married the former Doris Wesson (still living). Together, they shared 72 years of memories. Among those memories are their seven children: Ronald (Velma) both deceased, Barbara, Al (Raelene), Cynthia, Rick, Rita and Lynne (Maurice) and 10 grandchildren along with a growing number of great-grandchildren.
Robert started working at an early age. His first job would have been on his father's farm. He moved on to the coal mines of Alabama and, seeking a better life for his family, moved to San Diego, CA where he worked for various Air Craft Companies. Because of his upbringing, Robert stressed the importance of a formal education to all of his children and he supported their goals of pursing higher education.
Robert served our country in the Army/Air Force, as it was named at that time, from 1945-1947. As he was en route to the Pacific Theatre, WWII ended. He would continue on to deployments across the seas to conduct post war reconstruction until his honorable discharge in 1947.

Robert was introduced to the gospel message by his barber who was fondly known by the name 'Love' and he was baptized in 1949. Deciding to live his life with the Bible as his guide proved to be a life-changing decision for Robert. In 1952, he began preaching and would later go on to work with and strengthen Churches of Christ in San Diego and El Centro, CA and in Las Vegas, NV. He took seriously the Bible message to, "Go into all the world and preach the good news/gospel to everyone. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:15-16. He did not want to see anyone condemned. Many people are Christians today because Robert Hunter knocked on their door and taught them about Christ using the OBS (Open Bible Study). Robert ministered to the North Las Vegas Church of Christ for 35 years until his retirement in 2004. This congregation was his labor of love and they loved him.
Robert was a carpenter by natural skill and would often help people build additions to their homes and help churches do repairs and work on their church buildings. He enjoyed working with his hands. The original Church of Christ building that sits at 2626 Martin Luther King Blvd, was built, largely by him. From sunup to sundown, he could be found with various men of the congregation working on building the church building. It was always his desire to have a church building that would be comfortable for the Spanish speaking community. This dream was realized when the Church of Christ at this original location started to hold services in Spanish and does even now.
Finally, Robert also enjoyed his motor-home and found it relaxing to step up into it and get on the road with his wife, Doris, to destinations unknown. He would often say, "I don't care how tired I am, when I get in the motor-home I could drive for miles and miles and not get tired."
Family and friends are invited to the wake at Bunker's Mortuary on Monday, December 2, 2019 from 4:00-8:00pm and the funeral service on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00am at Bunker's Mortuary with minister, Bro. Leo Gay, eulogizing and Bro. Lorenzo Nichols officiating.

Interment will be in the Bunker's Eden Vale Cemetery, 1216 N Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, NV
