Vernon Lowell Smith, of Pahrump, died July 10, 2003. He was born on October 16, 1931 in Hillsboro, Texas. Vernon joined the Air Force in 1952, completed his basic training in Texas and Illinois. He came to Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas on January 1, 1953. He discharged from the Air Force on January 27, 1956 and went back to work as a civilian aircraft electrician until October 16, 1986. Vernon married Colleen Horsley on September 5, 1958 and they have lived in Pahrump since 1990. He is survived by his wife Colleen; son, Vernon R (LuAnn) of Henderson; daughters, Lori (Auburn) Burrell of Kiowa, Colo., Gwenda (Dean) Brooks of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Tommy, Matthew, Jesse, Josh, Joshua, Luke and Brittany; one sister, Venita Dollar of Hillsboro, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation from 3 p.m to 5 p.m., Monday, July 14 at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 N. Las Vegas Blvd. A second visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at the LDS Church on Wilson in Pahrump, with services following. Burial at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, at Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain.
