Walter( Wally) Valdomir Pinjuv was born in Las Vegas to Mike and Frances ( Malnar) Pinjuv. He was one of eight children. He grew up in the old Las Vegas and worked in the family business. Wally attended the old 5th Street School and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1940.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Wally and his brothers joined the military. Wally served as a carpenters mate first class on the USS Lancewood, a wooden minesweeper stationed in the South Pacific. He spent four years on active duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, Wally returned to Las Vegas, worked in the building trades and became a general contractor, founding P&C Construction with his partner, George Cromer. Some of his companies major projects are landmark buildings still in use today. These include the Maud Frazier Hall ( the first building at UNLV). Wally also built his own home and a favorite family cabin in the mountains of southern Utah. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Sertoma Service Club. He chartered the Winchester branch and served as president, and also served as governor of the CalVada district. He received numerous awards including the Sertoman of the Year for outstanding service, the Tribune award, and the Centurion Awards. His service in Sertoma has been recognized by various local organizations including Opportunity Village and the Boulder Dam Area Council.
Wally is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jane Pinjuv; children, Walter II and his wife,Anna, Victoria, Ricki, Sheri Thompson and her husband, David, Jana Ward and her husband Will, Dawna, Marc and the children's mother, Beth Pinjuv.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nikki, Cody, Lauren, Lacey, Will Jrl, and Sarah.
His surviving siblings are brothers, Charles, Mike, John and Fred; and sister, Evana Petty.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Agelina Crane; and brother, Eddie.
Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13th, at
Bunkers Mortuary
925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 14th at
10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church,
3050 Alta Drive.
Burial will be private.
