William Breland

October 31, 1944 — July 13, 2024

William Breland, age 79, died peacefully on July 13, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

William was born on October 31, 1944, in Bamberg, South Carolina to the late Clarence Breland and the late Oregon Ruth Orr Breland.

One of eleven children, he was the loving brother of Jeannete Woods, Cefus Breland, the late Jourisha Gregory, the late Samuel Breland, the late James Breland, the late Joseph Breland, the late Marie Williams, the late Clarence (Junior) Breland, the late Rose Breland, and the late Ruben Breland.  William’s family moved from South Carolina to Brooklyn where he attended high school in the 60’s.

Moved to Las Vegas in 1968 where he became a successful Craps Dealer starting at the El Rio (now VFW Post in West Las Vegas), then worked at The Mint, and finally retired from the Frontier Hotel and Casino.

Soon after starting his career, William met Ruth Ann Cleary in 1969. Together, they raised ten wonderful children. William was a family man and a people’s person that loved to make everyone feel special. Everything he owned, he shared with family and friends. Often taking extended family on vacations to California and never letting them pay for anything during the entire trip. He loved inviting people over to the house to play spades and dominoes while cooking up some delicious lobster, barbeque, and even wild game and fish from his hunting trips. You would often find him and his kids at Lake Mead, four or five days out the week. He was an outdoors man as he loved all his toys from his RV to his boat and 4x4 trucks but never more than he loved his family. He attended all his kid’s Pop Warner football games and always the loudest cheering in the stands, yelling “That’s my son!” He was equally very proud of his daughters who were the cheerleaders for their brother’s football team. He loved all his kids and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.

William would take extended trips to visit his brothers and sisters in New York. Always going the extra mile to get his favorite foods like a pastrami sandwich from Katz, burgers from White Castle, or coney dogs from Coney Island. He loved the New York landscape and going back home to visit where he grew up.

William was a devout Christian serving as a Deacon at Three Mile Creek Christian Church when he lived in Bamberg, South Carolina from 2009 through 2014. Most recently attended Mountaintop Faith Ministries in Las Vegas, Nevada.

William is preceded by his parents, Clarence and Oregon Breland; three sisters, Jourisha, Marie, and Rose; five brothers, Samuel, James, Joseph, Clarence (Junior), and Ruben; granddaughter Shania.

William is survived by his sister Jeanette Woods, and brother, Cefus Breland.
