William Fountain

OBITUARY
William Marle Fountain, Sr, was born April 26, 1925 to the late Earnest and Annette Fountain in Shaw, Louisiana. As a child, William attended school in Mounds, Louisiana. During harvest time of cotton, William refused to pick cotton so he would go to the house with his mother and help to cook for the family. He later graduated from Thomastown High School.

Immediately after graduation, William joined the Army in 1944. He went to the Philippines to serve as a supply clerk for almost three years, William received an honorable discharge.

In 1952, William met Mary Elizabeth Webster in Tallulah and they married. Out of that union, they were blessed with five children. William was a devoted husband and a great provider for his family. He worked two jobs one at Max Levy Drug Store and the other on the Railroad.

In 1966, William decided to move to Las Vegas for better work opportunities. He was employed by the Riveria Hotel and the Stardust Hotel as a porter. He retired after 20 years of service.

William became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Tom Jenkins since 1989. He was ordained as a deacon February 1996 by Rev. Jenkins. The church name changed to House of Hope under the leadership of Pastor George Lee. He continued to fellowship and serve as deacon at the House of Hope Church until his health failed. He was faithful to his calling and serving the Lord.

William was blessed by God to be a gentle mild mannered man who never got mad or used any profanity. But one thing he loved was being well groomed and was always tailored in beautiful suits. William loved to bake. He was best known for his peach cobbler, banana pudding and rice pudding. William was the co-founder of Annette's Southern Teacakes. His mother Annette's teacake recipe has been a hit.

William loved his children and grandchildren. He spoiled his children when they were younger bringing all kinds of candy, cookies, and all type of sweets home. When the grandchildren were young he loved to give them sweet water made of vanilla flavoring, sugar and water.

He is preceded in death by parents Earnest and Annette Fountain; five sisters, Camille Miller, Julia Patterson, Patsy Fountain, Pecolia Fountain, and Ruth Johnson; three brothers Andrew Fountain, Jimmy Fountain, and Henderson Fountain. His step children: Wally Jones, Adrian Webster, Vernon Webster also preceded him in death. Lastly, William Fountain 111, grandson preceded him in death.

William leaves to cherish his memories his children: Marcia Washington (Dave); Debra Scott (Joseph) and William Fountain, Jr. (Denise) all of Las Vegas; Ernest Fountain (Pam) and Ava Campbell (Aubrey) both of Houston, Texas; Step children: Walter Webster and Patricia Metcalf (Sherman). One sister, Cleo Hischman of Tallulah, Louisiana; 20 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
